“Elegance is not standing out, but being remembered.” —Giorgio Armani
Whether you’re hurrying to an important meeting, catching up with friends for brunch, or getting ready for a long-overdue date night, we all have those days when we feel stuck in a “nothing to wear” fashion rut or lack confidence in our appearance.
Keep in mind that fashion is a way to express your individuality, with no hard and fast rules to follow and not every look with work for us. What matters most is feeling confident and comfortable in your clothes. I believe the secret to appearing polished and elevated is rooted in understanding and
Knowing:-
What “IT” is you want to wear
How to wear “IT”
How to work “IT” with what you already own in your closet
Most importantly, knowing where to wear “IT”.
Identifying and accentuating our unique flattering features is the easiest way to improve our appearance. Knowing which colours enhance our complexion can make a significant difference. Keep in mind colour that complements you best should be placed near your face, as that’s what captures attention first. Furthermore, the right accessories and footwear can truly elevate or undermine your outfit. In my opinion, being mindful of the occasion and dressing appropriately is the secret to a winning look.
Whether your goal is to revamp your wardrobe, enhance your personal style, or simply feel more polished each day, here are some small yet impactful changes that can significantly enhance not only how you look but also feel at your best.
1. There is Power in a Well-fitting Outfit
The first step to looking more elevated is to make sure your clothes fit you well. Even the most stylish or expensive outfit can fall flat if it misses the “FIT” mark. Good fit creates polish, even in the simplest outfits.

“The dress must follow the body of a woman, not the body following the shape of the dress.” —Hubert de Givenchy
- Tailoring is key: Most off-the-rack clothes are made for the mannequins that do not apply to the real woman. ( I am making a whole series of dressing for the right body shapes.). Whether it’s the jeans that need a little hemming or your new jacket that could use some nip and tuck, tailoring is your best solution. Sure, it might cost a bit more and take some trial and error to find the right tailor, but it’s worth it.
- Highlight your best features, be it your legs, sleeves, bum etc. We all have features we love in us.
Ultimately, people will remember how stunning you looked, not how much you spent on your outfit.
2. Add Accessories for a Personal Touch
Accessories play a crucial role in enhancing, elevating and balancing an outfit. Think of accessories as not only functional but visual too. A watch, pair of prescribed glasses, a hand bag or even a hat can be considered essentials. But choosing them with a visual aesthetic intention might not be a bad idea at all. When you need prescribed glasses, why not style them up a bit and let them be both optic good and practical. “Timeless pieces” can be relative in reference to one´s personal style and lifestyle.

TIPP: The important key here is BALANCE. Avoid overwhelming your outfit by disallowing competition between the Outfit and Accessories. Either the accessories are the stars and the outfit is just complimenting them or the other way around. Think “out of the box” when engaging in accessories. eg An oversize blazer can be used as an accessory by just letting it hang over your shoulders. Some particially clear sunglasses can be worn as normal glasses if one does not have need prescription. A belt can create a different silhouette to an oversized men´s blazer.
Accessories get too much when you or the rest of the world do not know where to look. Every piece is competing for attention.
3. Perfect Your Posture
How you carry yourself can make a world of difference. Good posture exudes a sense of poise.
- Stand tall: Keep your shoulders back, chest lifted, and head held high. This will instantly improve your appearance and boost your confidence.
- Sit up straight: When sitting, avoid slouching. Not only will it make you look more put together, but it’s also better for your health!
This skill develops with practice. Everyone has the ability to master it.
4. Grooming is Key
You don’t need to spend hours on a beauty routine, but small changes can make a noticeable difference.
- Skin: Even if you don’t wear makeup, a fresh face is essential. Use a gentle cleanser, a good moisturizer to maintain a healthy looking skin. When you apply makeup, do not overdo it and make it fit to the occasion
- Neat nails and toes: Whether you prefer nail polish or a natural look, keeping your nails and toes clean and tidy is an easy way to look more polished. Invest in a nail file and clippers, and keep a hand creamin your bag to maintain soft skin. My beautiful melanin queens, our “archyness” can be spotted from many miles away.
- Hair care: It doesn’t matter if your hair is long, short, straight, curly, kinky or otherwise—well-maintained hair will always give you that polished edge.

5. Wear Clothes That Reflect You
The key to enhancing our appearance often lies in seeking inspiration. However, adding a personal touch to that inspiration and styling the look to reflect your unique personality is essential. A good outfit goes beyond merely keeping up with trends or just copying your favourite IT girl; it’s about discovering what suits you best. Understanding your body type, personality, and lifestyle is essential in styling your outfit that is you.

6. Smell Amazing
Never underestimate the power of scent. Fragrance serves as a potent means of showcasing your personal style and creating memorable impressions. Whether you lean towards bold scents or prefer softer, more understated options, selecting the right perfume can be the final touch that completes your look and leaves a lasting impression.
- Choose a subtle fragrance: You don’t need to overdo it with perfume—just a light spritz on your wrists or behind your ears is enough.
- Fresh breath matters: Keep mints or gum handy to ensure you’re always ready to flash that smile without worrying about bad breath.
- Sweat: You do not have to be going through Menopause to be having “sweat rains”. Some of us sweat more naturally than others. FRENCH BATH do not cut it at all. There is nothing filthy like walking around with body odour. It is not elegant and kills the whole look.
7. Quality Fabrics Matters
- Quality fabrics can make even the simplest outfits look more expensive and luxurious. Remember though that not all that is pricy is good quality. Natural fabrics like silk, cotton, wool, and linen tend to look more elegant and feel better on the skin. These fabrics often drape better and hold their shape longer than synthetics.
- Wrinkles: Before stepping out, make sure your clothes are wrinkle-free. A quick press or steam can transform an outfit.
8. Shoes Are Non-Negotiable
Shoes set the tone for your entire look. They don’t just carry you—they introduce you.
“Never underestimate the power of a shoe.” – Giuseppe Zanotti
- Ensure your footwear is in good shape and clean. Leather shoes should be polished, while sneakers should be wiped down if they’re looking a bit dirty. (unless that’s the intended style, in which case the entire outfit should be coordinated accordingly).

- Invest in a few versatile pairs that are versatile, stylish, and comfortable. Polish them. Protect them. Care for them.

9. Use Color to Your Advantage
A neutral, monochromatic outfit can be stylish, but adding a splash of color can elevate your look instantly.

- Know What Works for You: Not all colors suit every skin tone, so it’s important to find the hues, tones & shades that work best for you.
- Colorful accessories: If you’re not used to wearing bold colors, start small with accessories—a colorful scarf, bag, or shoes can be a great introduction. You can also add color to your makeup routine. Select a color that enhances your complexion or try one that aligns with the latest trends.

11. Prioritize Your Health
Looking your best involves more than just your wardrobe; it’s also about how you nurture your body. When you feel healthy and full of energy, it reflects in your appearance.

- Stay Active: Engaging in regular physical activity not only enhances your posture and overall look but also elevates your mood and energy levels. You don’t have to go to the gym daily—simple activities like walking, practicing yoga, or dancing can create a significant impact.
- Hydrate and Eat Nutritiously: Consuming plenty of water and maintaining a balanced diet are crucial for radiant skin, healthy hair, and an overall revitalized appearance. When you feel good inside, it radiates on the outside.
