Tweak Your Guacamole

One of the things I love most about guacamole is how easy it is to make your own. The classic version is delicious, but a few simple additions can completely transform the flavour and make it perfect for different occasions.

  • Spicy Guacamole – Add finely chopped jalapeños, chilli flakes, or a dash of hot sauce.
  • Creamier Guacamole – Stir in a spoonful of Greek yoghurt or sour cream for extra creaminess.
  • Chunky Guacamole – Leave some avocado pieces unmixed and add extra diced tomatoes and onions.
  • Mango Guacamole – Add diced ripe mango for a sweet and refreshing twist.
  • Corn and Black Bean Guacamole – Mix in sweetcorn and black beans for a heartier version.
  • Garlic Guacamole – Add a small clove of minced garlic for extra flavour.
  • Mediterranean Guacamole – Stir in diced cucumber, feta cheese, and fresh parsley.
  • Pineapple Guacamole – Add small pineapple pieces for a sweet and tangy variation.
  • Herby Guacamole – Experiment with coriander, parsley, chives, or dill.
  • Protein-Packed Guacamole – Serve it in wraps with grilled chicken, shrimp, or chickpeas for a more filling meal.

Storage Tips

Homemade guacamole is best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in the refrigerator for 1–2 days.

To keep it fresh:

  1. Smooth the surface of the guacamole.
  2. Press plastic wrap directly onto the surface or add a thin layer of lime juice on top.
  3. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

And YES! Guacamole freezes surprisingly well.

  • Best used within: 3 months
  • Freeze in airtight containers or freezer bags.
  • Add a little extra lime juice before freezing to help preserve the colour.
  • For the best texture, consider adding fresh tomatoes and onions after thawing.

My Take

I love guacamole because it’s one of those recipes that feels special, even though it’s incredibly simple. A few fresh ingredients transform ripe avocados into something creamy, zesty, and utterly irresistible. What makes it even better is that avocados are rich in healthy fats, fibre, and essential nutrients, making this dip as nourishing as it is delicious. It’s one of those recipes I never get tired of making because it always tastes fresh, satisfying, and leaves me feeling good too.
